ASM wishes to recognize Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc., for providing an educational grant to support the HIV-DRI in 2007.

HIV - Drug Resistance Initiative

Drug resistance is the major contributing factor in the diminished efficacy of many agents currently utilized throughout the world to treat HIV. The HIV-Drug Resistance Initiative is designed to address this problem from a global perspective. HIV experts on the HIV-DRI panel have identified and discussed the latest challenges, research, and innovative approaches to antiretroviral therapy via a Roundtable Consensus Conference held in June 2007.

The roundtable will be disseminated as an on-demand web cast and will form the basis of a focused ASM CME-accredited satellite symposium at the 47th ICAAC. The live satellite symposium has been archived and is offered online as a continuing education activity. The roundtable and satellite symposium will be translated into Spanish and French, made available via the HIV-DRI website, and will accompany a pod cast scheduled for release on World AIDS Day 2007.

A composite CD-ROM is available which includes the transcripts of the educational programs in English, Spanish and French, links to relevant websites, and a variety of other HIV-DRI program elements.

The effectiveness of the educational interventions will be measured utilizing a variety of methodologies. The goal of the evaluations will be to assess the level of improved patient care through the healthcare provider's acquisition, retention, and application of the knowledge presented.

ASM wishes to recognize Boehringer Ingelheim for their support of this activity via an Educational Grant and Conexus Health, the medical education company implementing the HIV-Drug Resistance Initiative.
